Beton House is where sharp architectural lines meet warmth and rhythm. Completed using Eurowood 2-part battens in Ghost Gum, this project balances privacy, airflow, and visual calm — without screaming for attention.
Beton House is a $4 million residential project that explores the balance between bold concrete architecture and the warmth of natural timber finishes. Designed with longevity, privacy, and visual restraint in mind, this home demonstrates how thoughtful material selection can elevate modern residential design without excess.
Completed using Eurowood 2-part battens in Ghost Gum, the project showcases a refined approach to batten screening and external cladding, allowing the architecture to breathe while maintaining strong, sculptural form.
The design intent behind Beton House was clear: create a home that feels grounded, private, and calm while remaining visually open and connected to its surroundings. Concrete was selected as the primary structural element for its strength and timeless appeal, but without timber, the space risked feeling cold and rigid.
The introduction of vertical timber battens softens this hardness. Rather than acting as decoration, the battens function as a spatial filter, shaping how light, air, and privacy move through the home. This approach creates a layered façade that changes throughout the day, casting subtle shadows and adding depth without visual clutter.
For this project, Eurowood’s 2-part batten system was selected for its durability, precision, and low-maintenance performance. Engineered for Australian conditions, the system offers consistent spacing, clean installation, and long-term stability — making it ideal for high-end residential builds.
The 2-part system allows for concealed fixing, resulting in a seamless finish that supports the home’s minimalist aesthetic. It also ensures structural integrity while maintaining a lightweight visual profile, which is critical in large-scale architectural homes like Beton House.
The Ghost Gum finish was chosen to complement the home’s neutral palette and raw concrete surfaces. Its soft, natural tone introduces warmth without overpowering the architecture, creating a cohesive relationship between built form and landscape.
Ghost Gum works particularly well in modern homes where subtle texture is needed to offset solid materials. As light shifts across the façade, the timber battens bring movement and rhythm, enhancing the building’s presence without dominating it.
Batten screening was strategically used throughout the project to define semi-private spaces, including outdoor living zones and transitional areas. This allows for privacy from the street and neighbouring properties while maintaining ventilation and visual openness.
Externally, the battens act as architectural cladding, breaking up large concrete volumes and adding dimension to the façade. This layered approach improves street appeal while reinforcing the home’s modern identity.
Beyond aesthetics, Eurowood battens offer a practical advantage. The material is resistant to warping, splitting, and weather damage, making it a reliable choice for long-term exterior applications. The low-maintenance nature of the system ensures the home retains its refined appearance with minimal upkeep.
The completed Beton House stands as a refined example of contemporary residential architecture. By combining Eurowood Ghost Gum battens with strong concrete forms, the project achieves a balance of strength and softness, privacy and openness, structure and warmth.
The result is a home that feels intentional, timeless, and quietly luxurious — a space where materials are not just seen, but experienced.
